About this event

Whether plotting a novel or short story, this course delves deep into the techniques of tension, suspense, crucibles and twists. Devices that keep readers captivated and turning pages. Through a series of engaging examples and practical exercises, participants will explore the nuances of building tension and creating high-stakes scenarios, known as crucibles, that test their characters to their limits. Participants will learn how to craft powerful imagery, high stakes, and analyse character’s motives, creating dilemma’s that resonate with a reader. This course also emphasises the importance of anticipation, motivation and scene objectives. Whether you're writing thrillers, crime, dramas, or any genre that thrives on tension, this course provides the tools and insights needed to master the art of perilous storytelling.

Participants are encouraged to bring along writing materials, e.g. laptop or writing pad. Ideally, they can focus on a current short story, novel, or a fresh idea they are hatching, and see how the tools discovered can enhance their writing.

Please note: Tickets cost $22.49 each. They are non-refundable but may be transferred to another person.
